Hello. I am e.n.d. Once upon a time I came from Minnesota. But then I moved everywhere.
Curiosity didn't kill the cat. Complacency did.

Bay Bridge, Downtown SF, and Transamerica. A view from my homegirl’s apartment in Russian Hill. Both a nostalgic and present evening for the books.

San Francisco, you wear night well.

Anonymous tonight.
This is a view of the East Bay, California, near the Oakland Flats. This must have been taken from across the bay in Potrero Hill, San Francisco. The neighborhood I lived in for three years.
On a sunny, clear day I was able to see this exact view when I scootered to the top of my impressively hilly neighborhood. (Hence the name, Potrero Hill).
I did this often.
This is an amazing photo.
Just about summer time in the Bay Area.
The air feels warm from here in Berlin.

It’s also the lyrics. The best track on The Eraser.
Seeing Thom play this live as a piano solo three years ago in Los Angeles meant…no dry eyes for me:
“Try to save your house
Try to save your songs.
Try to run.
But it follows you up a hill.
It’s all boiling over.
All boiling over.
Your little voice.
Your little voice.
No more conversation.
No more conversation.
You should’ve took me out when you had the chance .
You should’ve took me out when you had the chance.”

Of the five times I’ve seen DJ Shadow live, the first was in April 1997 at First Ave in Minneapolis, MN with Latryx. After listening to the relatively-recently released Endtroducing…. for months on repeat, our 17-year old rat pack singled out Building Steam with a Grain of Salt as the favorite track. And as much as we could that night, we silenced the audience around us, determined as hell, to suck in every second of that track live.
How come no one has yet used this for a film soundtrack, I have no idea.
Slam. Still my favorite.
Producing:
From listening to records I just knew what to do.
I mainly tought myself.
And, you know, I did pretty well…
Except there were a few mistakes.
That um, that I made, uh.
That I’ve just recently cleared up.
And I’d like to just continue to be able to express myself,
As best as I can with this instrument.
And I feel like I have a lot of work to do.
Still, you know, I’m a student, of the drums.
And I’m also a teacher of the drums, too.
Somehow over the past 14 years, I managed to miss this. Thanks Ario!
I first saw DJ Shadow live in what was practically a closet in 1997. He was one of the first to change my ears when it came to paying attention to sampling.
And for a bit there in the beginning, he was my trip-hop version of Radiohead.
San Fran Gone.
In preparation for some holiday visitors from my old digs in San Francisco, I just got stuck in the flickr vortex clicking through these photos of the area. They are fantastic. (Even a shot of my old - and then dilapidated - hood, Potrero Hill!).
Some of my favorites displayed but they are all so interesting. Steal some time away from family and take a look at them all.
